Aloo-Onion sambar

Aloo-Onion Sambar:
Preparation time-25mins
Serves-4
Ingredients:
3 potatoes
2 onions
4 green chillies
2 red chillies
1 cup toor dal
1 sp urad dal
1 sp mustard seeds
5 pods garlic
7-8 curry leaves
2 sps MTR sambar powder
2 pinches turmeric
2 sps grated dry coconut
1/2 sp salt
1/2 sp chilly powder
2 sps tamarind paste
4-5 sps sunflower oil
Method:
  1. Soak toor dal in hot water for 10mins.
  2. Peel the skin of potatoes and chop them into cubes.Chop onions into long thin slices.
  3. Cook potato cubes and toor dal under pressure for 3 whistles or 15mins.
  4. Add salt to the cooked toor dal and blend it into fine paste and keep it aside.
  5. Now heat a sauce pan,put oil in it and prepare seasoning with mustard seeds,urad dal,slit green chilles,crushed red chillies,turmeric,chilly powder and curry leaves.
  6. Add sliced onions to the pan and fry for a min.
  7. Take a deep pan and put 1 sp of oil in it and add cooked potato.
  8. Add 3 glasses of filter water mixed with tamarind paste and MTR sambar powder to it.Allow it to boil for 4-5mins on low flame.Close the lid.
  9. Now add the fried items from sauce pan to aloo and water.
  10. Put the blended dal paste in it and mix it even.
  11. Chop garlic into long slices and put it in prepared sambar,also add grated coconut at this point.Switch off the heat and close the lid for 5 more mins.This allows the flavors not to escape.
  12. Its a delicious side dish for rice.This also can be served hot with idly and dosa as a dip.
